Sightlines

the eyes of March

are not the carved eyes of October pumpkins

nor are they the clear weather skies

April, May and June—

green-eyed with tints of lime,

blue eyes with a light purplish mix,

the earthly colours of brown from our living planet.

Just eyes

happy and then happier,

the smiling glow from the dance floor

when the next song is a slow dance

and you are in the arms of the one you really love.

Michael H. Brownstein’s latest volumes of poetry, A Slipknot to Somewhere Else (2018) and How Do We Create Love (2019) were published by Cholla Needles Press. He has appeared in Last Stanza, Café Review and Xavier Review namely.
